Speculative Fiction Liverpool
Public Group active 8 months, 4 weeks agoSpecFicLiv is a new writing group started in December 2010. What we do will be shaped by what people who turn up would like to do, but so far we’ve done things like:
* reading each others work (post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk romance, urban fantasy, etc.) and offering (constructive!) critiques.
* reading aloud (sometimes by the story’s author, sometimes by someone else)
* discussing what interesting work we’ve been reading recently in the SciFi and Fantasy field
* gone to the pub, to discuss writing and other things over a convivial drink
Details
======
* Any questions/etc. please email SpecFicLiv@gmail.com
* Please join our Mailing List SpecFicLiv at groups.google.com
* Follow #SpecFicLiv on Twitter!
Meetings
========
We’ll meet up once a month: check the messages below, or twitter #SpecFicLiv for details of the next meeting!
* If you can, please submit a copy of a story (500-2000 words) at least a week before, either to Mailing List or email SpecFicLiv@gmail.com
* If you want to bring a longer piece, but haven’t distributed it before, please print out “enough” copies for the group
* Alternatively, please bring a short piece, 100-500 words if you can, to have read aloud at the group. (You may prefer to do that yourself, or someone else can read for you)
* If you haven’t written anything, please feel free to turn up anyway, and we’ll do our best to encourage you to get writing!
How it works
===========
We’ll all give feedback and comments to one author/story in turn, using the “Milford System” described in the Turkey City Lexicon.
* we’ll go round the group, one story at a time
* everyone has their opportunity to give feedback
* the author is forbidden from responding till the end! ![]()
* (written feedback is also welcome, but not required)
(these suggestions are stolenborrowed from the existing SpecFic Manchester group!)

I wasn’t able to attend last week, sorry I didn’t tell you but I didn’t get round to it. I was attending the London screenwriters Festival that day, frankly it didn’t go too well.
Anyway, and writing to tell you that this 3rd of November will be my 27th birthday. And I’m giving an open invitation to everyone in the group.…[Read more]-

Happy Birthday Ashley!
I’ve forwarded this post to the mailing list – just in case you’ve not seen that: if you’re in town today, why not pop into LEAF bar (the upstairs bit) and we’ll grab some birthday cake
I’ll be there 11am-3pm ish.
